The white shirt has become an iconic garment for years and has been a classic must-have item in wardrobes today. Singapore as the City of the Eternal Summer, located on the 1º17’N latitude, provides the background to inquire on issue of identity to develop in this white shirt project.

This project addresses the dilution of Singapore’s cultural and national identity through extensive research and documentation of the degradation of 3 white shirts. With the issue of low birth rates and Singapore’s ageing population, the forceful implementation of government policies has been the result. With curation as the medium, this project arranges a range of experimentations using natural methods such as humidity and sun bleaching a well as the forced degradation of bleaching on different white shirts. This experiment will then leave you with one question-

Will Singapore be able to retain its national and cultural identity?
